Greetings,
So it has been a minute since I have posted due to life and missions. However, I am constantly debating with other Soldiers in the Army about whether or not my Sisterlocks are IAW AR 670-1. My actual leadership in the past 5 commands that I have been assigned to are extremely supportive and took the time to look at the research and the facts about whether or not Sisterlocks are "dreadlocks" (they're not according to AR 670-1's definition of "dreadlocks") but OTHER random Soldiers that I have encountered have challenged/questioned me on the issue.
To clarify how we should wear our Sisterlocks in order to stay in compliance with AR 670-1, we do have to remember that they cannot be free-hanging. I have worn my Sisterlocks free-hanging in the past due to them being too short to tie up into a bun (and my BN CSM allowed it) but according to AR 670-1, braids (which Sisterlocks most closely fall under) are to lie snugly to the head (either by cornrows or pinned back and secured in a bun). Below are some pictures showing the proper way to wear your Sisterlocks IAW AR 670-1:
